Patriotism is irrational — you didn't choose where you were born

Patriotism rewards you for the geographic accident of where you were born. Loyalty to a country you didn't pick is the same logic as loyalty to a hospital you didn't pick — arbitrary. Civic responsibility, sure. National pride, no.
