Most under-reported foreign story of 2026 so far?
US-Iran is sucking the oxygen out of the news cycle. What major foreign story is getting almost no coverage in 2026 that should be getting more? Sahel, Sudan, Taiwan, Caucasus, Andean states — anything.

Sudan. By almost any measure — displacement numbers, civilian death toll, humanitarian access collapse — it's one of the worst ongoing crises in the world and it barely registers in Western news outside of occasional UNHCR press releases.
The RSF/SAF conflict has now displaced something like 10 million people internally. Famine conditions have been declared in multiple states. And yet there's almost no sustained coverage because there's no clean geopolitical narrative to hang it on, no obvious western-interests angle, and the country is genuinely difficult to report from.
The Sahel generally has this problem — coups and instability keep happening and get one news cycle each, then vanish. But Sudan specifically is operating at a humanitarian scale that should make it a lead story most weeks.
